Artist Statement
Not a view or a scene, not a place at all, but rather a feeling, a sensation about the natural world. I am drawn to Landscape certainly for its physical beauty, but more importantly for the way nature speaks to me on a spiritual level. It is the rhythm, the perfection and imperfection, the infinite cycles of death and rebirth, the perfect harmony and simplicity of nature that I strive to express. But, my tools of expression are color, contrast and design, not words. To better convey these thoughts in writing I turn to the poetry of Emily Dickenson:
“Nature” is what we see -
The Hill - the Afternoon -
Squirrel - Eclipse - the Bumble Bee -
Nay - Nature is Heaven -
Nature is what we hear -
The Bobolink - the Sea -
Thunder - the Cricket -
Nay - Nature is Harmony -
Nature is what we know -
Yet have no art to say -
So impotent Our Wisdom is
To her Simplicity
